Basic information
During the hot season when the temperature and humidity is high, proper poultry house ventilation is vital to ensure the necessary removal of heat and the continued productivity of the flock. Poultry house ventilation systems have a number of components
These include curtains, fans, fogging nozzles, evaporative cooling pads, timers, static pressure controllers, and thermostats. Most ventilation systems can provide an adequate indoor environment when properly managed, If the design and management of the ventilation system fails to satisfy the flock's ventilation needs, stale, contaminated air can build up in the poultry house, stale air and contaminants, including ammonia, moisture carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and dust, can cause stress and lead to depressed performance
Stress may impair the immune system and increase susceptibility to disease. To reduce problems with stale air and contaminants, air temperature, air speed, and relative humidity must be controlled by careful management of the ventilation system. Production efficiency can be affected long before the temperature reaches a level at which survival becomes a concern
Heat stress begins when the ambient temperature climbs above 80°F and is readily apparent above 85°F. When a bird begins to pant, physiological changes have already started within its body to dissipate excess heat. Even before the bird reaches this point, anything that you do to help birds remain comfortable will help maintain optimum growth rates, hatchability, egg size, egg shell quality, and egg production. During the summer months, when daily temperatures regularly reach the mid- to upper 90s, it becomes critical for the birds to dissipate body heat to the surrounding environment
Features
1. Poultry do not sweat and therefore must dissipate heat in other ways to maintain their body temperature at approximately 105oF. Body heat is dissipated to the surrounding environment through radiation, conduction, convection, and evaporation
2. The first three avenues are known as sensible heat loss; these methods are effective when the environmental temperature is below or within the thermal neutral zone of the bird (55o to 75°F). The proportion of heat lost through radiation, conduction, and convection depends upon the temperature difference between the bird and its environment
3. The bird loses heat from surfaces such as wattles, shanks, and un feather areas under wings. To maintain body temperature by sensible heat loss, the bird does not need to drastically alter its normal behavioural patterns, feed intake, or metabolism
4. The purpose of poultry house ventilation is to maintain a high enough air velocity or a low enough temperature in the house that the birds can maintain body temperature by sensible panting removes heat by the evaporation of water from the moist lining of the respiratory tract
5. However, panting itself generates body heat, and it causes poultry to eliminate water from the body. It can induce respiratory alkalosis, which occurs because the bird blows off excessive carbon dioxide (CO2) when it pants. As a result, body fluids become more alkaline, causing the kidneys to excrete excessive amounts of several electrolytes
6. Chick sensitivity to temperature fluctuations may significantly influence the effectiveness of day old spray vaccination, performed either in the hatchery or after arrival in the house. Using an excessive volume of water for vaccine preparation and improper size of droplets are the most common reasons for post vaccination reactions and problems, even if the type of vaccine used was mild enough and correct
7. Control the body temperature of a day old chick mainly by controlling heat loss through the floor. If the house is on temperature but the floor is too cold (below 29-30°C), the birds lose too much heat through their feet, lie down and become even colder because now a larger body area is touching the floor, and their body temperature will drop very quickly, it is clear therefore, that maintaining the correct air temperature is not enough to prevent this heat loss, it is exactly the same principle as when we as humans walk barefoot over a cold floor

Management procedures
1. Power assurance system
In addition to the conventional power system, generators that match the chicken farm must be required and can be switched automatically
2. Illumination
Ensure uniform illumination in the house, use a split-level installation of the bulb or use a row of lights
3. Quality supply of water
The water supply line is set in the middle of the top of each layer of the chicken cage. Two nipples are set in each cage for the chickens on the left and right sides to drink water. This way, the spray will not fall into the manure, making it even drier. A strainer, a smart water meter, a dosing device and a pressure reducing regulator are provided at the front of each water line. With the digital information of the smart water meter, the daily drinking situation of the chickens can be understood, and the health status of the chickens can also be judged
4. Reduction of heat stress
Heat stress has detrimental effects on chickens, too much of heat in the poultry house can reduce egg quality of laying hen and reduced growth rate in broiler production. Exposure of environmental stress during the growing period of broilers has been coupled with undesirable meat quality. Heat stress has adverse effects on behaviour, welfare and immunity of poultry and decreases the egg production resulting in massive economic losses of farmer
