Basic information
The aid of disinfectants in poultry is to remove dirt from poultry house. During the feeding process, the broiler chickens do not mess with a batch of chickens, and the broiler cages will leave pathogens and pollute the environment. If these pathogens are not eliminated, it is easy to infect the next batch of chickens. Therefore, do a good job in empty house disinfection, so that each batch of chickens has a clean and hygienic living environment, in order to prevent the circulation of various diseases
There is a time to carry out a proper cleaning and disinfecting of the poultry facilities. This is especially true if you are considering bringing in new birds or replacing your flock, be they layers, meat birds or show birds
Decontaminating your poultry house is crucial in order to prevent marek’s disease, mycoplasma, respiratory viruses, e.coli, mites, and other poultry health problems. Even more important is the control of salmonella enteritidis (SE), especially in laying hens, it can colonize in a chicken’s intestinal tract without necessarily causing obvious disease in the chicken itself. This may lead to the organism invading other tissues and eventually finding its way into the reproductive tract and ovary, contaminating the egg itself
In order to reduce SE and other health risks, a complete dry cleaning, washing and disinfection of the poultry house after each flock or at minimum once each year is recommended. Successful cleaning is hard work and requires systematic completion of several sequential steps. Every step is important

The basic disinfecting methods
1. Clean the broiler cage
Keep the house thoroughly clean. The feeding tools such as drums, water dispensers, plastic nets, light bulbs, thermometers and hygrometers, overalls and other utensils must be moved outside. Thoroughly remove dirt such as chicken manure, feathers, coal ash, and clean the roof, walls, doors and windows, etc. so that there is no dust inside
2. Cleaning the chicken cage
Wash the floor, walls and doors and windows frequently. Soak the tools and tools in the chicken cage with disinfectant, rinse with water and dry. There should be no water in the ground of the chicken cage, and any surface inside the chicken cage should be flushed in place, no dead ends, no dirt attached
3. Overhaul work
Maintain cage tools, repair nets, service circuits, and heating tools. The tool can at least guarantee to raise a batch of chickens, otherwise it should be replaced, and the damaged bulbs should be completely replaced. It is best to use energy-saving bulbs
4. Governance environment
Remove the debris from the outside drainage ditch; remove the weeds around the chicken cage; so that the drainage is smooth and does not affect the ventilation. Repair the road outside the house and clean the factory area to avoid chicken droppings, feathers and garbage
5. Chicken cage disinfection
Move tools and utensils into the cage and close the doors and windows and vents. It is required to be closed and tight without leakage, spray disinfection, ventilation after 10 hours of disinfection, and after 3-4 hours of ventilation, close the doors and windows, ground disinfection should be sprayed with 3% hot alkali water or lime
6. Fumigation
Solid formaldehyde and potassium permanganate fumigation method are selected. During the empty house disinfection, no one or animal enters the chicken cage. After fumigation, open the doors, windows and vents 24-36 hours, and fully ventilate
7. Repairs
Proper features should be made to carry out any repairs to the structure prior to the final disinfection step, the seal any rodent entry holes at the outside and inside of the building. Apply a small amount of spray foam insulation into the hole, then pack in fine steel wool and top with more spray foam
Principles
1. Clear out all of the dirt, feathers, nesting materials, and bird droppings. Depending on the size of your coop, this could take some time. It is important to scrape out as much of the bird droppings as you can since they unfortunately will not soften with the help of water or a cleansing solution
2. Break out the hose and spray the enclosure down. You'll want to remove any and all dust and debris left over from scraping and shoveling. If there is a significant amount of debris left over, you may need to repeat step one
3. Use a natural cleaning agent like vinegar to disinfect the chicken nesting boxes and coop. Do not use bleach, as it is far too harsh for animals to bear and can be toxic to the chickens if it hasn't dried completely. Vinegar, however, has very similar cleaning properties without the harsh effects. Mix equal parts vinegar and water to create a cleaning solution and mop up the area for an all-natural cleaning. Take a hand brush or thick-bristled broom and scrub the floors and walls to free any remaining droppings, stains, dirt, or debris
4. Sweep out any standing water, but let the coop and nest boxes air dry. The fresh air will help with the lingering vinegar smell, and sunlight will also help aid in the disinfection process
